My Views on De-Cluttering

I would generally describe myself as an organized person. I prefer things to have a place, and be in that place.

I have found it very interesting to see the focus (like on Netflix for example) switch to a decluttering / clean up perspective.

With finding what 'sparks joy' with Marie Kondo and THE (The Home Edit) - there are a multitude of options encouraging a general clean up and organization.

I personally don't vibe too much with Marie Kondos approach but that is likely because it is primarily clothes focused and requires patience...

The Home Edit is a bit more on track with my usual approach. I enjoy that they go with the rainbow vibe. I don't tend to trend that way but the 'editing' part is my go to. I LOVE a good purge of things from the home.

I have changed over to shift my closet to be more rainbow set up - which is more aesthetically pleasing - and honestly easier to know what I have.

I know they say to start small - even with just a drawer. But I am a bit of a go big or go home person when it comes to de-cluttering.

I usually focus on a room at a time and pull everything out (in sections) to go through and clear out whatever I can.

Items that haven't been used in a while, don't have a foreseeable use, or are just tired - go.

Mostly I donate items. Selling things actually causes more stress for me because then I would have to manage that process and keep the item until it gets sold. I'd rather have it out of the house now and someone else can find it as a good deal.

About a year and a half ago, I read a book called the Style Bible. It helped me refocus my work wardrobe. After I read that book, I cleared about 6 trash bags worth of clothes from my closet. Then earlier this year (in Spring) when we moved master bedrooms, I cleared another round. Then again, this fall, I did another 2 bags of purging. I am slowly getting rid of more and more because I am seeing what I use or don't use throughout the year. If I am not using it, why do I have it?

Also, with these diet/lifestyle changes, I have lost a decent amount of weight, which shifts my clothing sizes. I am still not exactly where I would like to be but I am working to be mindful of my closet items so that I have enough during this time of transition. I have not bought any new clothing items and I do not intend to until I am much closer to my goal weight.

Recently, I have done some reading about minimalism (see other post about that), so I would like to pare down a bit more than what I have - but I am holding out a bit to make sure I am not being too rash with my decision making and end up having to buy something over again.
